It is a moulded cap, and it is why this tool works on the animals that are hardest to do. A cat that will not tolerate a black instrument coming at its foot will often tolerate this, and we are not going to pretend that is sophisticated. It just works.
Underneath it is the same category of tool as the Pro: three port sizes, a diamond drum, USB charging, the same 14-day plan on the same card. What it does not have is the ring light — so on a large dog with black nails, buy the Pro instead.

The light is the entire product
All four of my dog's nails are black and I have been guessing for six years. Being able to see the chalky ring and then the dot is the difference between doing it and not doing it. Everything else is a normal grinder.
Good, but slower than I expected
It does the job and my dog tolerates it, which the clippers never managed. But it is genuinely slow — about four minutes for all sixteen. They do say so on the page, so I cannot complain, I just did not believe them.
Bought it for the card, kept it for the tool
Read the 14-day plan on the site, ran it with the cheap grinder I already owned, and it worked. Bought this one anyway because it felt rude not to.
Battery died in month five
Worked well until it did not hold a charge. Emailed them and they replaced it under the warranty without arguing, which is the only reason this is two stars and not one.

I bought the little bear one for my cat expecting nothing. Low speed, smallest port, one claw at a time over about three weeks. She now sits on the counter for it. I have no explanation.
Does what it says, hums louder than I hoped
58 dB is accurate — it is a hum but it is not quiet-quiet. My nervous one needed the full two weeks. My other dog did not care from day one.
First trim in a year that did not end in a fight
He used to hide under the bed when he heard the drawer. We did the boring version for two weeks and now he offers the paw. Wish I had found this before the £40-a-visit groomer.
Fine tool, the gloves are a gimmick
Grinder is good. The gloves in the kit did very little for me — my dog is short-coated and did not care either way. Would buy the grinder on its own next time.
Before you buy
Is this just the cheap version of the Pro?
It is cheaper, but that is not why it exists. It is smaller in the hand and quieter to point at a nervous animal, which matters far more on a cat or a puppy than any spec does. If you have one 70 lb dog with black nails, the Pro is the better buy and we would say so.
What happens when the drum goes blunt?
A spare ships in the box, and both our grinders take the same 13 mm diamond drum with a 3 mm shank — so a replacement from anywhere that sells that fitting will seat. We don't stock them ourselves.
Seven hours of battery — really?
We measured 22 full sixteen-nail sessions on a charge, which is the number that answers the actual question. At one trim a week that is five months.
